There’s this Jerry Seinfeld video where he talks about his process and he says he is literally always writing material. Whatever happens in his day, from the smallest interactions to the very interview itself, could be the spark of a joke. When I saw that interview I never felt more understood in my life. Everything is a photo op. I haven’t left the house without a film camera since 2020. I don’t even take out the trash without my favorite point-and-shoot in my pocket. I consider myself less of a photographer and more of a special moments collector because humans are irrational creatures who have built an overstimulating world that must be documented. If we live in a simulation, I want to be ready for the exact moment The Matrix glitches out and a dog runs by me carrying a full sandwich in her mouth. Oh yeah, and I guess I direct, too.
